Let’s talk Rucking

Wow. I’m not going to lie, I am sore. This weekend was a pretty heavy training weekend for me. 26km run yesterday, a 6.2km this morning (had to make up a training run), and hubs organized our first “Go Ruck” type event.

I went into the Go Ruck not knowing what to expect honestly. I had seen many friends post about Rucking and I know Ryan wanted to do one for a while – a different type of fitness challenge. Well I was in for a surprise. Ryan had planned a 7km event with some functional fitness exercises at each 1km. We both carried our own weighted backpacks – I had 20lbs in mine, and Ryan had 25 in his.

In our Ruck event, Ryan set it up to be we each do our own set of exercises with our own back packs and then one set each carrying each others back pack. I don’t want to complain, but holy crap it was hard. Ryan set things up to be tough.

I can’t remember all the exercises, but from what I can remember we did:

  • Weighted pull ups
  • Squats
  • Burpees
  • Step ups
  • Mountain climbers
  • Jumping jacks
  • Walking lunges
  • Three stair runs, then with Ryan’s pack and mine 2 more sets of running stairs

I am sure there was more but I can’t remember now…

By the last km I was feeling pretty done. I wanted to push through as we have a big race – The Spartan Beast coming up. I’m tired and sore but feel really good. I’m going to roll out now, but I’m greatful that he put this together. I needed a good butt kick and this was it.

I’m hoping more friends come out next time as we had fun. I’m hoping to relax now but well done Ryan!!!
